OK this dragon is EXACTLY what I'm looking for as my book cover of the book I'm in the process of writing just swap the chest and the *mirror?* for 3 eggs with a blue glow around them and it's very nearly a perfect projection of what I see in my mind as the dragon.
"And how do you propose to do all that? Especially since we can destroy castles by sitting on them, swallow a ship-of-the-line whole, and wipe out entire armies by ourselves? I'm not one for hoarding, personally, and granted, there are a few dragons who'd do the world a favor by dying...but you aren't exactly the first one to propose this. I wish you luck, but just know that you'll need it. Desperately."
--A centuries-old Desert Dragon to the same human, during a chance meeting that same day.
"In hindsight, I had grossly underestimated them... we all had.
Now we'll all pay the price for our arrogance."
--- The same Desert Dragon, surveying the horrific aftermath of a human-dragon battle, with the Human warriors standing triumphant over the corpses of hundreds of great dead dragons and thousands of dead humans, killing off the survivors in tribute to their gods for this victory. The dragon and many others soon threw their lot with the Humans rather than face them in battle, when the war swung in the Humans' and their non-Human allies' favor.
